HEAR Class of 2026 Scholar, Ariela A., is making the most of her college experience. She gained some invaluable work experience during her second semester at college, and is spending the summer preparing for her fall 2023 semester at Cornell University.

Says Ariela, “This spring semester was very successful. I served as a part-time legislative intern at the U.S. Senate for Illinois Senator Richard Durbin. I worked for the Defense and Foreign Policy portfolio where I tackled issues including foreign-manufactured medical technology, assault weapons prevention, nuclear decommissioning, and global economic equity.

Furthermore, I was accepted into the “Gateways to the Laboratory Summer Program” (https://mdphd.weill.cornell.edu/summer-program), so I will spend this summer conducting biomedical research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Lastly, I will be continuing my undergraduate academic journey at Cornell University in the Fall of 2023 – my transfer application process was a success!”

We wish her the best of luck in her upcoming sophomore year and look forward to keeping you up to date of her progress!
